Hole 6
Tee Approach
Playing Tips
Hole Overview
It’s rare for a par 5 to be ranked as the toughest hole, but the 6th at Spring Park more than earns that reputation. A true strategic test from tee to green, this demanding hole requires accuracy, positioning and patience at every stage.
From the tee, players are faced with a narrow chute that places immediate pressure on the drive. The fairway then gently bends to the right, catching out tee shots that are struck too straight or fail to shape with the hole.
The challenge continues on the second shot, where the infamous “Gotcha Tree” guards the left-hand side of the fairway, ready to obstruct the approach for any ball positioned poorly.
Successfully navigating the lay-up leaves golfers with one of the course’s most impressive green complexes, a narrow green framed by classic Sandbelt bunkering on both sides, demanding a precise and well-controlled approach.
A true championship-style par 5, where smart decision-making is rewarded far more than aggression.
Playing Tips
Accuracy from the tee is the priority on the 6th. Favour a controlled shot that follows the shape of the fairway rather than trying to overpower the hole, as position is far more valuable than distance. Players who can shape the ball slightly from left to right will set up the best angle for their second shot.
For the lay-up, awareness of the “Gotcha Tree” is paramount. Position your second shot to the right-hand side of the fairway to open up a clear approach into the green and avoid being blocked out.
The approach shot requires a straight controlled wedge. With bunkers tightly framing both sides of the narrow green, aiming for the centre of the putting surface is often the smartest option. Missing left or right here can quickly turn a birdie opportunity into a difficult scramble for par.
